As organisations and purchasers face increasing pressure to prioritise and raise standards in sustainable procurement, there has been a surge in demand for more sustainable IT products according to TCO Certified.
TCO Certified, the world’s leading sustainability certification for IT products, has today announced a new all-time high in certifying new IT product models in March, following the launch of TCO Certified Generation 9 the month before. IT products are a significant contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions. However, with advancements in design, manufacturing, technology, and user behavior, it is possible to limit the environmental impact of IT products. TCO Certified is at the forefront of this movement, and its criteria help organisations make more sustainable choices when selecting IT products.
During the month of March, 122 new product models were certified, representing the highest number of product certifications in a single month since the launch of TCO Certified, generation 9. These products came from ten different brand owners, with displays and notebooks being the most popular product categories, followed by desktop computers and headsets. Currently, around 4,000 products are certified according to TCO Certified
“This is good news for everyone genuinely wanting to make more sustainable choices. Behind all the certificates lies more than 10,000 hours a year on developing criteria. Furthermore, each year, accredited experts spend more than 20,000 hours on product testing and supply chain assessments to ensure compliance and reduce the risk of greenwash”, says Sören Enholm, CEO at TCO Development, the organisation behind TCO Certified.
