AI will reign again – but what else can we expect from 2024? by Hayley Mooney, GM UK, Crayon

The pace of change in technology has been relentless, and 2024 promises to keep this momentum going. The tech landscape has recently undergone a transformative journey, with AI leading significant shifts in arguably all sectors. Now, a year on from the launch of ChatGPT, we stand at a critical juncture, ready to witness the inaugural long-term impacts of AI, particularly in its

intersection with human capabilities. The question on everybody’s mind at the moment is how an AI-enabled workforce will shape the future of the tech channel. Over the next 12 months, I anticipate that the following trends will change the way we work for good:

  1. Business innovation

To no-one’s surprise, cost optimisation will remain a priority. However, the landscape is evolving and with this, other factors will also be top of mind. AI will not merely be a tool for automation and efficiency; it will be a catalyst for innovation, capable of reshaping how businesses operate. Fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders is key, as companies view AI as a complement to human capabilities. Those perceiving AI as a partner, rather than a replacement, will carve distinctive niches in a competitive market, redefining innovation by playing to the strengths of both human talent and technological advancement.

  1. Tackling the skills shortage

The technology skills shortage is a longstanding challenge, and the need to address it has never been more urgent with channel success depending heavily on the seamless convergence of AI and human expertise. Positioned strategically between clients and technology, channel partners will play a vital role. Beyond meeting current client needs, the tech channel must proactively upskill its workforce. Initiatives aiming to unlock latent potential within the talent pool will ensure readiness to meet the evolving demands of the digital era. The most successful channel players will be those who integrate AI into their operations and educate their workforce accordingly, creating a complementary relationship that fosters innovation, enhances problem-solving, and delivers unparalleled value to clients. AI, as a force multiplier, will shift the narrative as a tool to amplify human capabilities instead of replacing them.

  1. Emergence of new roles

With the need to upskill will come the creation of new roles within the tech channel, specifically focused on deploying AI successfully. As businesses increasingly integrate the technology into their operations, there’s a growing need for specialised training professionals, who will play a crucial role in ensuring maximal return on investment. Guiding teams in understanding AI applications, fostering continuous learning, and aligning AI implementations with business objectives, these trainers will proactively bridge the knowledge gap and empower organisations to drive sustainable growth through innovation.

  1. Transforming recruitment

Diversity in the tech industry has been a longstanding conversation, and this year will mark a substantial shift. The tech industry will actively look to hire neurodivergent talent. Fortune 500 companies are projected to lead this charge, with a quarter adopting diverse hiring practices by the end of the year. Particularly, with cases being made for AI as a tool to support neurodivergent talent, it is an opportune time to diversify recruitment efforts. This will work to enhance employee engagement, fuel innovation, and position businesses for long-term success.

  1. Rise of ecosystem collaboration

The tech channel is on the brink of a paradigm shift in collaboration. Beyond traditional partnerships, 2024 will witness the rise of interconnected ecosystems. Channel players will leverage synergies with diverse partners, from start-ups to established tech giants, creating holistic solutions. This collaborative approach is set to drive innovation and provide clients with comprehensive, end-to-end offerings that address the multifaceted challenges of the digital age.

As we navigate 2024, the enduring impact of AI on the tech landscape is undeniable. However, it’s crucial to recognise that amidst the models and data streams, the human touch remains indispensable. The coming months will witness a strategic investment in people, not just as a means to fill roles but as a catalyst for change. As we embrace this relationship, we pave the way for a future where people are the driving force behind tech channel success.
