Agreement will see Civo become the exclusive cloud partner of Deep Green, the innovative company using compute waste heat to heat swimming pools and local communities
Deep Green, the team pioneering carbon-neutral compute, announced a new partnership with Civo, the only pure-play cloud native service provider. The agreement will see Civo become Deep Green’s exclusive cloud partner.
The new partnership between Civo and Deep Green will give Civo customers the exclusive opportunity to run their cloud workloads on Deep Green’s servers, giving them access to a groundbreaking sustainable cloud solution. Not only will this help companies move towards a sustainable and net-zero future, but it will provide Deep Green with a constant workload to generate zero carbon heat to power its community based projects.
Data centers currently produce 3% of global emissions. To combat the problem, Deep Green captures 90% of the heat produced by servers and puts it to good use by using it to provide free hot water. Deep Green’s solution dramatically reduces energy bills and environmental costs for organizations that require significant amounts of heat, such as swimming pools, food manufacturers and textile firms amongst many. Using a small-edge data center, or a ‘digital boiler’, the system immerses computers in mineral oil to capture the generated heat, this is then passed through a heat exchanger to heat the water.
Users will be given the option to select the Deep Green region from Civo’s range of regions; from there, they’ll be able to run their cloud workloads on Deep Green’s Exmouth systems. As Deep Green continues to expand, Civo customers will be able to run their workloads at a range of Deep Green data center sites, with their compute used to generate heat in communities across the UK.
This partnership is another step from Civo as it commits to a sustainable future. Civo is offering access at a competitive price and has kept its pricing consistent across its regions as it encourages more of its customers to pivot to green solutions.
Mark Boost, CEO of Civo, said, “At Civo, we’re firm believers that cloud shouldn’t cost the earth. That’s why we’re focused on making these solutions accessible to our customers. We all have a responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint, and this is just one way we’re looking to reduce our emissions and move towards a climate positive future. We’re excited to step into this role as an exclusive partner and help take Deep Green to the next level to build a fairer and more sustainable future for cloud.”
Mark Bjornsgaard, Founder of Deep Green said, “Energy is expensive, and precious. So many organizations and communities struggle to afford the heat they need to exist. Yet so much energy, so much heat, is wasted everyday by data centers. That’s what Deep Green is fixing, and in the process dramatically reducing overall carbon emissions. We’re excited to have Civo’s customers join us on the journey. For too long, compute infrastructure has contributed to the problem of climate change. Now it can be part of the solution.”
About Civo
Civo is the first cloud provider purely focused on Kubernetes – the future-proofed, de facto standard for containerized applications.
By re-imagining cloud computing and challenging the status quo of the major cloud providers, Civo removes the complexity of managing containers and delivers a fair and transparent billing model.
Helping companies to host core applications with ease, Civo provides a secure and stable platform for scaling cloud native services globally.
On September 5th-6th 2023, Civo will host its first European tech conference, Civo Navigate Europe 2023, in London. Find out more and register for tickets here.
About Deep Green
Deep Green is a 100% self-funded, British tech start-up. It was founded in 2016 by Mark Bjornsgaard, an entrepreneur with an interest in technology and energy. Deep Green uses the latest in ‘immersion cooling’ technology to extract heat from on-site “edge” data centres to provide free hot water for swimming pools and a range of other industries. Decarbonising commercial and domestic heating is one of the most urgent climate imperatives and Deep Green is excited to be at the heart of this important transition.
