Private equity companies behind leading technology providers, such as Daisy and Node4, have emerged as potential bidders in the £1 billion takeover of Gamma Communications, a provider of business communications to enterprises and SMEs across the UK and Europe.
On April 7, Gamma announced that it was in preliminary discussions with a number of ‘potential offerors’ interested in putting forward a proposal ‘that might deliver greater value to shareholders’.
Then, on May 13 and 15, it confirmed it was already in talks with three investors in mid-market UK and international businesses: Providence Equity Partners LLC, Epiris LLP and a consortium comprising Oakley Capital and Giacom.
Providence Equity Partners is a private equity firm focused on media, communications and education businesses in North America and Europe. These include Node4, a UK-based MSP well known to readers of Technology Reseller.
Oakley Capital invests in mid-market businesses across the technology, consumer, education and business services, including Daisy, the provider of B2B communications, IT and cloud services founded by Matthew Riley in 2001.
Riley is also Founder & Chairman of Oakley Capital’s consortium partner Giacom, the specialist indirect cloud marketplace de-merged from Daisy Group in 2019 as Digital Wholesale Solutions (DWS), before being rebranded as Giacom in 2023.
