N-able Urges MSPs to Act Ahead of Windows 10 End of Support by Lewis Pope, Head Nerd at N-able

N-able is urging Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to begin planning as the end of support for Windows 10 approaches. This transition, beginning on October 14, 2025, presents both opportunities and challenges for businesses, especially when it comes to upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11. For companies with newer systems, this may be a straightforward software upgrade. However, older systems lacking Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 or nearing the end of their lifecycle pose more complex issues, often requiring new hardware.

MSPs must play a key role in guiding clients through this change. Many business leaders are hesitant to operating system upgrades, viewing it as an unnecessary expense, especially when systems seem to be functioning well. However, after Windows 10’s end of support, these systems will no longer receive security patches, leaving businesses exposed to serious risks that an MSP now must pick up the slack and attempt to mitigate, which is often a losing proposition.

To overcome resistance, MSPs can shift the conversation from “upgrades” to “business risk management.” N-able’s Patch Management solutions help MSPs manage the timing and process of upgrades, minimizing disruption—enabling MSPs to demonstrate the security risks and long-term cost implications of running unsupported software, helping business leaders understand that upgrading is a necessary investment.
By initiating these discussions early, MSPs can help clients plan and budget for upgrades, avoiding the risks of last-minute decisions. Waiting until systems are out of support only increases vulnerabilities and operational disruptions.
The transition to Windows 11 also offers an opportunity for MSPs to future-proof clients’ systems. As Windows 11 emphasizes software stability over hardware changes, MSPs can create managed service packages that include ongoing assessments, updates, and lifecycle management, reducing the long-term financial burden by moving capex to opex.
N-able encourages MSPs to act now, ensuring that clients are prepared and protected before the Windows 10 end-of-life deadline. This is not just a technical upgrade, a strategic opportunity that can strengthen the security and resilience of businesses.
